Quality Dairy Farms. Inc. consists of nine Lewis County farm families. All of our members are active dairy farmers, who strive to keep their farms beautiful and their milk the highest quality. Many of us have received the prestigious Empire State "SUPER MILK" Quality awards and Dairy of Distinction Awards. Our farms reflect the pride and dedication we have for the Dairy Industry.

Gary & Sue Berrus
Gary Berrus graduated from Lowville Academy in 1975 and went to work for his father on the family farm. He married Susan in 1978 and they had three daughters. He partnered with his parents on the farm in 1980 and purchased the farm in 1988. The farm consists of 150 cows and 125 youngstock. Gary is very active in the community, serving on 4-H committes, New York Farm Bureau, Lewis County Holstein Club, and the school booster club. He also enjoys hunting, snowmobiling, and golfing.

Charles & Shirley Sullivan
Charles Sulivan served with the United States Marine Corp between 1954 and 1957. He bought his family farm in 1960. He is married to Shirley and they have five sons, five daughters-in-law, and ten grandchildren. They received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award in 1968 and the Senior Farmer Award in 1998. Charles was instrumental in organizing the Deer River Bulk Milk Cooperative. He is a member of the NNY Hound Club, Lowville Elks Lodge, NNY Farmers Market, Empire Livestock Board, Eastern A1 Board, Farm Bureau, Town of Denmark Board of Review, Town of Denmark Councilman, and Vice President of Deer River Bulk Milk Cooperative. He enjoys snowmobile racing and New York State Modified Tractor Pulling (he was a past NYS Champion).

Max & Patsy Makuch
Max and Patsy Makuch, who are lifetime farmers, reside in Denmark on their 170 acre farm "Golfcrest Holsteins." They have four children. The family milks 74 cows and enjoys such hobbies as golfing, hunting, snowsledding, and skiing. The Makuch's have received many awards for their quality milk from NY State and their local milk co-op.

Danny & Roxaina Hurlburt
Roxaina and Danny have two children. She was instrumental in forming the Deer River Bulk Milk Cooperative. She has been very active in the New York State Dairy Princess Program. The Hurlburt farm has been a NYS Dairy of Distinction Farm for 20 years. Other activites in which they participate include Farm Bureau, Lewis County Cooperative Extension Board of Directors, elected to the Lewis County Board of Legislators in 1998, served as Chairman of the Courts and Law Comittee, and she served on municipal and education committees. She has owned a beauty shop in her home and has worked at Foy Insurance Agency in Deer River.

Michael & Sandy Birchenough
Michael graduated from Lowville Academy in 1977 and attended Canton ATC for a year before finishing at Cobleskill with a degree in Animal Husbandry and Dairy. In 1982, Mike and Sandy were married. They have two daughters and own a 230-acre farm with 135 cows. Mike has been director and president of NNY Farmers Market for several years. His hobbies include hunting, snowmobiling, golfing, and spoiling his girls.

Steven Eisel
Steven has one son and three daughters. He bought the family farm in 1969, which his son and daughter and their families help operate. The farm has 150 cows. Steven serves on the local town assessor board of review and the local zoning commission. Steve attends Estate Planning classes with the intention of turning the farm over to his children.

Michael & Joyce Sullivan
Michael and Joyce married in 1980 and have three daughters. Mike operates Flat Rock Farms with his father, Charles. The farm has 500 acres, 170 cows, and 120 youngstock. Mike serves on the Board of Directors for NNY Farmers Market and enjoys hunting, snowmobiling, and 4-wheeling.

William & Chris Vargulick
William graduated from Carthage Central School in 1973 and Canton ATC in 1975 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He worked as a herdsman for one year at Southview Farms in Castile, NY. He purchased his family farm in 1976. He married Christina in 1975 and they have five children. He is currently the president of Deer River Bulk Milk Cooperative and is Town of Champion assessor. Bill enjoys high school sporting events and golfing.
